Agents Beware, Our Image is Being Badly Tarnished on TV!
Bribery? Parties and drinking at open houses? Physical attacks? It may not be your business method, but this is how real estate agents are portrayed occasionally on television - and when we see that we need to speak up!

It is no wonder the public sees the Real Estate Agent as a necessary evil. We are often portrayed in a bad light whether on a show like this or just in a movie. Always the greedy conniving sneaky back stabbing Real Estate Agent who is out to line his own pockets rather than providing a valuable service to a client. Very sad to say the least.

As REALTORS® we need to let the public know how hard we work and that this type of behavior is not the norm in our profession. I don't know if the National Association of REALTORS® monitors this show or any of the others but I do know that one of the agents on this show was under investigation for photoshopping a listing in New York as it made the national news. Bravo may call this reality TV but this is not the reality that I have known for my 25 years in real estate in Virginia and I am sure that this is not the reality for any of the other REALTORS® or agents working in our business. We are for the most part a self-policing group for the Code of Ethics and I don't understand why if these agents are members of our National Association of REALTORS® that red flags have not been raised either by the local, state or national associations. We have all been taught that we need to coo...    less

John Caporale You know, I've read similar comments about Italian portrayal in shows like The Sopranos, etc. It is what it is. Realizing this is TV, do you really think people would tune in to watch our typical transaction process unfold?

Granted, some of the stuff is over the top, but, frankly, I prefer to see us portrayed as wildly exuberant about doing our jobs, than, the reality, as I find out yesterday talking to a new client: his listing was active for over two years, 4 showings, ZERO feedback.
The larger concern was stuff like Luis misrepresenting doctored photos, stuff like that...
      Lighten up. It's TV.  less

The waiting game for buyers and sellers is usually a losers game. If they wait to see if more houses come on the market they are gambling that prices don't rise and interest rates don't rise. A very poor bet. As a seller, you are doing the same thing. If rates rise, fewer buyers will be able to buy and that could/would drive prices down. Or if a lot of homes come on the market at the same time, down go prices.
